I have tons of Spanish TV in the SF Bay Area. Many of us who are trying to learn Spanish (not me) have ZERO Spanish TV in our local area. One of the things we folks who are in Spanish classes in Mexico really try to focus on is watching TV and movies and catching (especially) the ones that have sub-titles and especially (if you have the remote) to slow it down and concentrate on a sentence or two. PS: Bottom-line.no program works unless you are practicing with native speakers. Everyone is different so I hope you find what works for you. It didn't work for me so I took classes (the best ones) in person. Rosetta Stone (and the other similar programs) depend on you to listen to them. Now, I can finally understand all those books and audio programs and Adult Ed stuff I did over the past few years. Nothing *clicked* (even an immersion program in PV in 2007) until I started taking classes from Maestro Melchor Cortes at Spanish School Vallarta this past Spring.

One of the audio/visual packages I worked with claims to be equivalent to Rosetta Stone (but cheaper due to no TV advertising costs).Īll of the above were OK (to some extent) to a point. I bought a number of audio programs and took some Adult Ed classes. I never took Spanish in high school but have a Spanish surname (and a former husband whose native language was Spanish, but he wouldn't speak it) THUS have been highly motivated, after retiring, to learn Spanish.

As others have indicated, take a class or a long series of classes (such as in college or a program such as I've taken) in order to really learn Spanish.
